RESCUE SIMULATION - Alternative Tests |
|
The dog waits on shore either under command or with second handler. First handler swims out to a terrified misper stranded on a boat 20 metres away. Handler calms misper persuading them to get off the boat then calls dog from shore, whilst assuring misper that dog won’t harm them. The dog then tows the handler and misper to shore.
Younger/older dogs can do this exercise 15 metres from shore with the handler swimming alongside. |

1st Element |
|
The boat is held 20 metres out with dog and handler on board. A second boat is cruising nearby. Misper falls from first boat, together dog and handler jump from boat which then drifts off. The second boat moves to assist the dog, handler and misper who are then brought aboard. Dog can either be brought on boat or return to shore.
Younger/older dogs can do this exercise 15 metres from shore and swim back rather than be brought aboard the boat. |

2nd Element |
|
Two boats are positioned 20 metres out and 15 metres apart with the dog and handler in boat 1. Boat 2 has a misper overboard out of sight. Dog and handler leave boat 1 with the dog holding one end of a long rope. On reaching boat 2, dog gives the end of the rope to boat handler to attach to the boat and then continues to swim with handler to rescue misper. Handler and misper are then pulled aboard. Boats are then pulled together attached side be side before being taken to shore. It is the owners choice whether the dog returns to shore in the boat, on own or towing both boats.
Younger/older dogs can do this exercise 15 metres from shore and should swim back to shore alone. |
|
3rd Element |
|
Two boats cruising about, boat 1 loses two mispers overboard and continues journey. Boat 2 comes into shore to pick up dog and handler and then takes them out to the mispers. Dog and handler exit the boat ideally on opposite sides, dog picking up one misper and taking to shore whilst the handler picks up the other misper and takes to the rescue boat.
Younger/older dogs can do this exercise 15 metres from shore with the handler swimming alongside. |
