Section A

Exercise 1 - Swim out 15 metres to boat

• Dog to swim directly out to the boat

• Dog to take rope and tow to shore or when in touching distance of the handler in the boat turn and swim back to shore closely followed by the boat.

Points lost for:-

• lack of control;

• hesitation when entering the water;

• the dog being physically redirected;

• not swimming directly to the boat;

• attempting to enter the boat;

• not turning when instructed;

• not swimming directly back to shore;

• not leaving the water when instructed.

 

Failure:-

• Exceeding the 3 minute time limit for completing the exercise

• 35 points allocated – must obtain at least 26 points

Exercise 2 - Swim out 15 metres to Handler or Stranger

Points lost for:-

• lack of control;

• hesitation when entering the water;

• the dog being physically redirected;

• not swimming directly to the person;

• not turning when instructed;

• not swimming directly back to shore;

• not leaving the water when instructed.

 

Failure:-

• Exceeding the 3 minute time limit for completing the exercise

• 35 points allocated – must obtain at least 26 points

• Dog to swim directly out to handler/stranger

• When in touching distance turn and swim back to shore either towing or being followed by them.

Exercise 3 - Retrieve familiar object from 6 metres

Points lost for:-

• lack of control;

• hesitation when entering the water;

• the dog being physically redirected;

• not swimming directly to the object;

• not turning when instructed;

• not swimming directly back to shore;

• Dropping object before getting back to shore;

• Having the object thrown again;

• not leaving the water when instructed.

 

Failure:-

• Exceeding the 3 minute time limit for completing the exercise

• 30 points allocated – must obtain at least 23 points

• Throw article out at least 6 metres from shore

• Dog to be sent to retrieve the article from the water and return to shore.
