RESCUE SIMULATION—Alternative Tests

The dog and handler swim out together 15 metres to retrieve provided object (life ring / life jacket / torpedo buoy). Both return to shore the dog carrying the object in its mouth and the owner being towed; swimming along side the dog or holding on to both the dog and item.

Younger/older dogs may use smaller versions of the objects

1st Element

2nd Element

The dog and handler swim out together 15 metres to an anchored boat and both swim around the boat. The handler is brought into the boat whilst the dog takes the rope and tows the boat to shore.

Younger/older dogs take rope or other article back to shore without towing the boat.

3rd Element

The dog and handler swim out together 15 metres towards an anchored boat to rescue an overboard misper waiting to one side of the boat. The handler swims to misper , sending the dog round the opposite side of the boat. The dog swims around the boat and picks up handler and misper pulling them both safely to shore.

Younger/older dogs can pull the casualty to shore with the handler swimming alongside.

4th Element

The dog and handler swim from shore to two mispers who are 15 metres out and 5 metres apart. Mispers have fallen from a boat which is now anchored 20 metres from shore. One misper is noisy, one quiet. The handler swims to the quiet misper whilst sending the dog to the noisy one. Dog then picks up their misper towing across to the handler. When the dog reaches the handler the handler takes hold of the dog which pulls them safely to shore

Younger/older dogs can do this closer to shore with the mispers and handlers walking rather than the dog towing.
